It means the last prophet was the last person to successfully convince the majority of the world that he was sent by a god.  The majority of us now are smart enough to reject such claims if they arise in this day and age.  Unfortunately (from my point of view) many people refuse to accept the possibility that people 2000 years ago lied or were crazy.
