  1. Because whatever you heard is a religious belief or myth. Gold is a natural element produced by the earth. If God only gave gold to the Meso-Americans, why is it in Alaska? Russia? California?

  2. "Gold given by God"   lol

Gold, like everything else comes from the heart of some star or more correctly a 100 billion or so stars in our Galaxy alone since we have almost 200 billion stars in the Milky Way and gold probably didn't come from all of them.

  3. Antiquities should most definitely be returned to their lands of origin . . . not merely to the people of those lands, but to those places where those antiquities rose.  Gold may be a monetary unit.  But, the gold itself came from the land and it too should be returned to its lands of origin.  In these days of other monetary exchange systems all gold unto itself is truly an antiquity, a museum piece, and should be rescued, by the peoples and for the peoples, from the indignities of commerce.

  4. There's a group of people in the colombian Amazon called the U'wa... they know about the gold in the earth and they see it as best left there, as it 'works' there, with the stars, sun and planets... it is seen as related to the sun because it is yellow...

Civilised/western/whatever you want to call it society is very visual oriented... it sees something shiny and it grabs it, and attributes a false value to it. Of course, gold has many other properties that make it useful... it is a great conductor, and is very resistant to erosion... But we see it simply in these terms, atomistically, elementally, and economically, and see it as there for the taking....

Does anyone really know why Gold is attributed such high monetary value, or is perceived to be so precious, in western society?

  5. b/c Meso-Americans worshipped false gods, the true god gave their gold to faithful new-yorkers.
