I'm an Obama supporter, but over the course of the day I've been thinking (Sabbath just ended; not a lot else one can do) about the outcome of a Hillary victory over Obama.
To me, it wouldn't have mattered so much, because I'm more interested in the policies than the person, but would Hillary have had more chance of winning the presidency?
Here's my thought-pattern: if Hillary had won, I cannot see any Obama supporters going Republican. Perhaps, if we felt that our candidate had been mistreated, some people would have stayed home rather than voting, but I cannot see any Obama supporters voting Republican.
Then again, if you'd asked me earlier this year if I thought any Hillary fans would vote Republican, I probably would have found that absurd, too.
Now, you can take this as you wish: perhaps it's that Obama supporters are generally more political (voting Hillary because she has almost the exact same policies as Obama) or LESS political (less likely to think of and work the strategy of letting McCain "ruin" our country for a few years so that our candidate can have another go - by the by, I'm not suggesting that he would "ruin" the country, that's in quotation marks because I've seen the strategy worded as such).
On top of that, I can't see many Obama supporters being swayed if McCain had picked a non-white VP (though it hasn't been long enough to tell if any Hillary supporters HAVE been swayed - I apologise for bringing it up if that's not the case).
What do you think? Would a Hillary victory have been better for the combined beliefs of Obama/Hillary supporters, in this light?
Keep in mind, this isn't about whether Hillary was any better than Obama - this is about the patterns of the supporters' votes.
Peace.
