  1. Possibly. Holding Stalingrad would have opened up lines of supply to critically needed oil. It would have also allowed the Germans to anchor their southern lines along good geographical ground. At the very least, it would have extended the war, forcing the soviets to pay an even heavier cost to regain territory. At the most, with a secure fuel supply, it would have been possible for the Germans to hold off the allies in western Europe, at least long enough for some of their "superweapons" to come into play.  If Hitler could have pushed England out of the war before 1945, Germany might have been able to hang on to more European territory, and allowed Hitler to throw all his forces at the Soviet Union. If Hitler and his subordinates had been cunning enough to utilize dissatisfaction with the USSR, he woud have raised more manpower to fight them and caused the USSR considerable trouble behind its own lines. Good question.

  2. well his force was so weakened that he probably wouldnt have kept russia for long and he would have needed reinforcements in europe

  3. yes, definitely

It was Soviet Union did the biggest role in defeating Germany

Stalingrad was the place that Soviet Union was depending its survival,

so it could change the outcome of the war

  4. The Russians are tough!  It might not have made a big difference.  Imagine these scenarios: What if the Americans stopped research into the A bombs because they didn't get the German intelligence?

What if the Americans beat Germany with atomic bombs.  With a weak Russia and Germany, there would have been no Cold War.  America would not have had the motivation to advance their military technology.

  5. It is possible.  Germany was running out of oil fast.  By taking Stalingrad, they would have been on the back door of the oil fields.  More oil, more opportunity to use the blitzkrieg against the enemy.

  6. It would have had an enormous impact on the course of the war - if Hitler had seized the oilfields of the Caucasus, he may have been able to re-energize his Panzers in North Africa and thereby have a whole new front to fall back on in the event of collapse in Europe.

Also, by capturing the city, Hitler would have secured a valuable transport route between the Caspian Sea and the rest of Russia.

  7. No, Germany had given up on trying to develop the atomic bomb so once the U.S. had it the outcome of the war was decided.  It might have gone on in Europe a little longer but Germany couldn't have withstood atomic bombs any better than Japan did.
