  1. When you go to rent skis, advise them of your ability level, and they'll choose an appropriate length.  It's based on your weight, and how advanced you are.

  2. Ski length is determined by body weight, not height.  Other factors are ability level, type of terrain, type of skiing(park, freeride, off-piste, racing, etc).  Go to a ski shop (not a box store) for professional advice.

  3. I have 160 cms and I'm 5'7.  I think they should be taller... but as a general guideline skis should hit between the nose & chin.  If you race, and have really good control, you should get longer skis; if you're purely recreational and aren't an expert (think greens & blues in the mountains) your skis can be a bit shorter.  I hope this helped...

  4. what i learned, is that if its up to the tip of your nose, it's a good size for picking yourself, then have a worker check for you, mostly, your right. Ive been skiing scine i was 5 and for 9 years, going on 10, so... I know

  5. Since you asked, Iguess you are a beginner or intermediate skier, so get one that is up to your nose.  If you are heavier than average for your height, you will want a stiffer ski.  If you are light for your height, it should be a little softer than the average ski.  To get the feel of the flex pattern of the ski, put the tail on the floor, grab the tip with one hand and push on the binding with the other one.  Do this to several different pair  as you are choosing yours.  Many thrift shops have several pairs  that you can learn this skill with.
