  1. if you hit a duck hook, or a hard slice, do not use a pro v1.  every once in a while, i'll hook it bad and if i use a very high spinning ball, its out of play. so i use an nxt tour because it is less spin that a prov1 but still a 3 piece so its soft around greens.  its just a little cheaper than a prov1.  also callaway hot bite.

  2. ProV1's will help.  They are by far a better ball.  But they are expensive as h**l.  I usually try to buy balls in the $25-30 a dozen range and they are fine.  I just purchased 6 boxes of the discontinued taylor made balls for $28 a box, no tax.  These will last me a while, but I do tend to lose about 3 balls a round, so pro v1's are very expensive.  If i'm playing in a tournament, I'll use pro v1's, but if it's just a weekend round then save your money.

Don't always believe what golf magazine's say.  They are biased.  Companies like Titleist and Callaway pay them big bucks in advertising and will try to sway you towards purchasing the more expensive equipment even if you don't need it...that's how they make money...you would do the same thing if it was your job to rate clubs/balls.

  3. provs waste of money . same or better performance with nxt or the top flites great ball for  9 holes discolur easy . 15 wedge shots with todays grooves scuffed to much to play , nxts razor blade grooves , fine . top flites fine . save your funds for the 19th hole or two more rounds of golf ,personal opinion .plus i am cheap  have a great season

  4. it all depend on how hard you swing..if your a big guy with fast club head speed then the Pro V1 would help. But if your more of a little guy with a slow swing who is looking for more distance off the tee, id go with a softer ball suchas the New Noodle +

  5. Pro V's will do nothing but help your game.  You will get more consistant ball flight and spin.  The one hinder is price.  The worst thing you can do for your game is keep playing different brands of balls that fall under different types of catagories.  What I mean is don't play a distance ball one round then a premium ball the next and then a middle of the pack the next.  You will have a hard time developing your game on a day to day basis.

Unless you can afford it, stay away from the Pro V's and Callaway HX 56 Tours.  These balls are very soft and will scuff up after a round or so.  I would recommend the Callaway HX Tour, Nike One Black or Srizon URS.  These balls are more durable and cost wise should fall just below the Pro V's.

I typically play HX 56 Tours, HX Tours and Pro V's on a day to day basis.  I have played with them long enough that I know how each one will react on day to day basis given certain weather conditions.    Good luck with your ball search.  Also, one person noted the golf magazine article.  I get that magazine and reviewed the article.  Very enlightening and you can choose what parameters are most important to your game based off their results.

  6. It all depends on how well you strike the ball. I've played with Pro v1's before. I liked them but if you slice alot then I wouldn't use them they have a higher spin rate, and may increase your slice. I like the titleist NXT tour's myself they seem to be a better fit for my game. Golf ball technology changes constantly these days so to get a better idea of what ball to use go to golf.com and look up the golf ball quiz and see which ball works for you. It may be in the archives seeing how they put out this article in the Golf magazine  February 08. I hope this helps you.

  7. The Top-Flite XL3000's

    D2's and

the new XL5000's are a pretty d**n good ball for the price.

  8. Like alot of other people are saying, it all depends on how you hit the ball.  Being a 14-handicap I think you will benefit from the ProV1.  You will get more control (spin) and probably more distance.  You also have to remember that if you are looking at the price, you have to ask yourself, how much is this ball worth to you?  if a few yards off the drive and more control on chips, short irons is worth the ProV1 price tag, then by all means, it will be a better ball for you. =)

  9. Hinder bigtime.  Unless you are made of money and can afford losing several $4 balls.

Those cheapie TopFlites suck!   I will play with the old ones, but never the "BOLD T" variety..they aint even round most of the time.  I'd choose a little better ball, like a Titleist NXT or such that run $20 to 25/doz.

  10. Does anyone read golf publications?  Get a subscription to one.  Golf Magazine did a golf ball test in February of 54 different balls.  It found that the so called "better players ball" suit more than just the better player.  I'm a 14 handicap as well and use the Nike One Black.  It's longer off the tee than the Platinum and only the Platinum and the Wilson Tx4 spun faster.  You'll get similar results around the green with "better players balls" just like the pros do with proper execution of the shot.  You may not hit the ball as far off the tee, but you'll hit it farther than a ball that isn't a "better players ball."  Golf Magazine recommended the Pro V1 for someone of your ability.

  11. I am an experienced golfer who is probably about an 8 handicap and i have tried the prov1's.  they are nice balls, but for a 14 handicap, I would try something more along the

lines of the Titleist DT So/Lo or the Callaway Hx Hots.  They tend to be more durable, but you don't sacrifice versatility or spin.  Your ball trajectory will be higher and straighter.  Although, I will say that the best thing about these great balls is their price.  The Callaways run for $24.99 a dozen and the Titleists run for $19.99 a dozen as opposed to the prov's running for $45.99 a dozen.  I hope this helps.

  12. Top Flite's will do just fine until your a 10.

  13. ProVs will spin more than the balls you mention.  This is great for stopping the ball on the green (backspin).  But it also means when you hook or slice a drive it will spin more and go further left or right.  It depends on your game, you should at least try a sleeve and see how you like them.  If you can keep it in play it will help you around the green.
