I play yahoo chess all the time. I'm roughly a 1500 player on yahoo chess playing over 1300 games thus far. If I played in real life, how well does yahoo ratings correlate with rating in the real world?

  1. If wanting to increase your skill focus on the fact that ratings are only important in regard to pairings.Remember that all people lose and win at chess and the best thing is  to focus on the skills of chess with as much accuracy as possible.Chess kids in grades k-12 focus to much on rating instead of using chess skills.Attack, defend, strong squares for your pieces, etc think and learn on these things in chess.

  2. In real life also it is all depends on how much knowledge u got in the game and how u play on a particular day.

  3. That depends on the time limit you generally play.  If you are playing 1- and 2-minute games, it is meaningless, since those games are generally decided by who moves fastest rather than any actual ability.

If your games are all 5-minute or slower, however, then there is some correlation.  A 1500 rating I'd equate to low 1600s.  Generally speaking, I think you can take the Yahoo rating and add 100 to 150 points to it to get a USCF estimate.

  4. its depend in your moves think much harder and be careful to your moves

  5. dunno i play in pogo.com

  6. On yahoo you have 1 rating.  USCF has a quick and regular rating for different time controls.  personnally my USCF is about 1550 and my yahoo fluctuates around 1600 for 10min games.

The only way to truly know is to find a tournament near you and play.  Generally the entrance fee is about $10-$30.  Visit uschess.org to find tournament listings.

  7. I'm guessing around 1500 assuming you are not one of the clock cheaters.
