Hi, what are the options for getting a green card in the US, if I am a Canadian Citizen and have never lived in the US. My girlfriend is an American Citizen and lives there.

  1. So you marry her there.

  2. candians can work here very easily. You can apply for a TN visa and work here. It is a 6 month visa, but is easily extended.

If you decide to marry, you need to get a K1 Fiance Visa. It gives you 90 days to come here and get married. When married you fill out petition forms and go from there. If you do decide to go to marriage route you should know the first 5 years of marriage will be you, your wife, and the INS.

  3. get married and good luck

  4. if you are a real couple so and want to get married than yes that would be the easiest way.

but if you are not sure if you want to get married so you should consider your other options.

if you want to marry her you must apply for a fiance visa wich is valid for 6 months(i think) and then after you get married you get a green card then finally after 3 years of holding a green card you get a citizenship.

  5. The ONLY way is if you get married.

    After the marriage.....

The US citizen files I-130, I-864 and G-325A for the new spouse.

The foreign spouse files I-485, I-765 and G-325A.

File all 6 forms in the same envelope, at the same time.

In about 90 days or less the foreign spouse will get a work permit.

In about 6 months the foreign spouse will have an interview with USCIS.

In about a year the foreign spouse will get the green card in the mail.

If you need to "go home" you, the foreign spouse, must file Form I-131 with the USCIS. Try to file at least 90 days BEFORE you leave the USA. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT FILING THIS FORM OR YOUR CASE WILL BE DROPPED.

You can find all the immigration forms here.....

  6. First of all, if she loves you and you are ready to get married with them. Marry them in the U.S (as long as the marriage is a real marriage)

Or Apply for a green card with the U.S Government .

If you never lived or visited here. I know people in Europe who like the U.S but dislike living here so they moved back to their home country.

  7. It's fairly easy for a Canadian to get American citizenship. Why not just find a job in the US?

It's not nice to marry someone to get citizenship.
