It's a bit tricky. I'm going to be studying vocals primarily, but I also play the harp, and I would like to deduct it on my taxes to the IRS. Can I because I am studying music, or must it be on the instrument I'm studying at uni?

  1. No. Student Tuition and Education expenses are not deductible. Student loan interest is deductible.

  2. No, that wouldn't be deductible even if you were studying that instrument.  If you were a working musician making income from your music, then you could deduct it.
