I'm starving...I did it once before and didn't have a problem, but I don't want to be embarrassed.

  1. some stores have equipment that will check your account to make sure you have enough money before they accept the check, but if you've done it before, this store probably doesn't. What I would do would be go in there and just get enough food for today. That way if the check is declined you won't have a huge cart of groceries and it will be less embarassing.

  2. Sometimes grocery stores can take your funds when you write the check.  Be careful.  Also, if your deposit and the check hit your account on the same day, most banks will process deposits after they process the checks.  So - you might go negative, then the bank assesses their fees and THEN they deposit your check.  I hope everything goes well for you.

  3. Just make sure they don't have a system that verifies your funds with check (like some walmarts do), and as long as you know your money will be in the account your fine. And to clarify credits hit before debits.

  4. When you write the date, make it a day ahead.

That way they can't cash it right away, and the cashier probably won't even notice.

  5. It depends on whether Publix uses Telecheck or a similar instant-transfer system.

  6. Sure - if the bank is closed tonight.  The store will take your information and check your account in the morning after 8:00 am.  You'll be fine - good luck!

  7. I don't see why not.. A check won't clear right away. But there is always a chance that whoever pays you has screwed up. If it's a direct deposit there is always a chance of glitch.

  8. it has to be post dated for the next day just to be on the safe side so you dont get a NSF charge.
