  1. I think the provinces are based on agricultural resource attributes and also for autonomy purposes in making regional communities feel more powerful.  It creates an ability to have differences depending on where you wish to locate in the beautiful nation of Canada.

Anyhow, the Calgary Stampede sure creates this oneness feeling of all Canada!!!!!   Also in Ottawa there is a Newfoundland and Laborador Choir group.    So it really is one great Canada, so don't worry about provinces so much.

  2. Almost every single country in the world has regional hierarchical divisions of administrative authority.  In the UK there is the United Kingdom ===> nation (England, N. Ireland, Scotland, Wales)====>county====>borough====>town.  In the US it is similar.  In Canada we have provinces.  What's the big deal?  We're not all part of the big same blob; our histories are different and we're unified by one government.  Ontario isn't the same as Newfoundland and BC isn't the same as Québec, so why pretend?

  3. It's all part of the joy of being Canadian and the effects of Canadian federalism. Because the country is so diverse people here are more likely to identify themselves by which province (or in some cases city) they're from first before saying that they are Canadians. People that are in the same region identify with other people in the same region more readily that people from another portion of the country. A person from Manitoba will think they have more in common and the same concerns as another person from Manitoba or Saskatchewan than with someone from say Toronto or BC. Neither is more important, it's just the way that the country developed. The ironic thing is that even though we prefer to identify with our own porvince, overall there are a lot of similarities between the provinces that we often overlook.

  4. Honestly I can not say your question makes any sence...

its like saying why do Americans have states if they are the same country  or any other country as a matter a fact .it is not a canadian phenoenom to have differetn regions and territories

  5. We have different provinces because we like it that way, and because it makes it easier to administer such a huge country, and for a variety of other reasons.  We have different provinces because we joined Canada at different times and brought with us our own provincial and territorial histories and identities at that time. Canada does not expect anyone to give up that identity to be only Canadian, but rather accepts the diversity, and is proud of it. Even within provinces there can be more than one identity - Labradorians and Cape Breton Islanders certainly consider themselves unique within their provinces. We are an eclectic and amicable mix of people, who share one great commonality - Canada - as well as many other lesser commonalities. Most countries have political divisions of some sort - provinces, states, counties, shires, districts, etc. That has nothing to do with being "foreign".  Best of luck.
