Sometimes, if it's in an area where they think it might be ripped off, they'll try to leave it with a neighbor and leave you a note as to where it is.

not the truck! how will the truck climb stairs?

and I dont think trucks can read notices left on your door

(although if its the driver that deliver the package

you can also leave a note saying okay to leave the package

If it's safe to leave it and the package does not require a signature, then yes.

Otherwise they'll leave a tag on your door with a number to call for re-delivery.

1.  If it does not require a signature: Yes.

2.  If your neighborhood does not seem safe they may leave a note  or try to leave with a neighbor.

3.  Usually they will try to place it somewhere "hidden" so it can not be seen from the street.
