If I'm sick should I store pumped breastmilk?

I always end up pumping a little more than he eats and I normally store it. Should I just dump the rest of it since I'm sick, or is it okay to store? I'm still breastfeeding him (just pumping for the time I'm away from him) and feeding him the pumped milk, I just don't know if it's good to store in a freezer for backup supply.

  1. It depends on whether you are on a medication for the sickness or not...If not then your breast milk will actually help your baby create the needed antibodies to fight that illness.

  2. Yes, your sickness is not in your milk.  The antibodies that your body is using now to fight the sickness will be in your milk, making your baby healthy and some what immune to the type of sickness you have.  However, he can still get sick from anything airborne, so wash your hands frequently.

    Good luck!

  3. If you are sick then your body is producing antibodies to whatever is making you sick.  When you breastfeed those antibodies are passed on to the baby.  You should always breastfeed while you are sick unless you have to take some medication that is not allowed while breastfeeding.

  4. i think it's ok to store.  if it's a virus, you are your baby are building up defenses to it right now.  usually people don't get the same virus twice because they are immune to it after the first time.  i don't usually pump when i'm sick because i don't have the energy, but i don't really need to pump at all.  i just pump for an emergency stash that never gets used.
