I'm 16 and in high school right now.

I'll be going to college in another 2yrs.

What college should I go to if I want to become an airline pilot?

What other tips should I read about to start preparing for a possible career in aviation?

Thank you

  1. Look into Embry Riddle, its one of the bests schools to go to.

  2. Take Flying Lessons!

  3. Take care of your health and develop good attitude.  These two are very important.  Research and you'll find out their significance.

  4. My preference tells me that the Air Force is a good place to start (thats where I started) Many but not all major carriers look at AF pilots. They find they make a good choice for them. The AF offers good training. Commercial carriers are looking for pilots that they don't have to spend allot of money/time training. There is nothing keeping you from starting to learn about flying now is there?

Several carriers have their own school

  5. Least expensive way would be to join the air force and study multiple engine aircraft

  6. It doesn't matter what college you go to or what degree you get. The only thing the airlines are interested in is that you have a degree, so don't fall for the advertising put out by the big aviation schools. A degree shows that you are at least somewhat intelligent, somewhat trainable, and mosty important, able to finish something that you started. They don't want to spend money on people who drop out or wash out during training. Do yourself a favor and choose a course of study that you're really interested in, preferrably in a field that can employ you if the airline busines is in a slump (as it is now) or for some reason you can either no longer fly professionally or no longer want to. Trust me, I got an "Aeronautical Studies" degree from a well known school. It was very expensive, hasn't helped me in my career, and couldn't employ me during the significant amount of time I was out of work due to airline layoffs / failures.

Also, you need to read this book, it's worth every penny. I wish it was around when I was your age: http://www.aviationcareercounseling.com/...
