If I'm trying to raise money to donate to my local ASPCA center. Can I go door to door asking for funds?

I'm sixteen and I can only do this on the weekends.

Also, I thought about selling small baked items but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.

  1. By the way, its the SPCA.  The ASPCA is located in New York.  So if you live outside of New York, it would be your local SPCA, not ASPCA.

Anyways, door to door can turn some people off and they might not give you money.  I think that a bake sale would work well, car washes also work well.  You could even form a club at school so that you have more people to help you.

Also, a GREAT website that could help you a lot is http://www.humaneteen.org/?q=forum

The Humane Teen (one of the Humane Society of the United State's programs) website has great suggestion on how teens can help animals (volunteering, fundraising, clubs,..etc.). You can even get advice and help from other teens on the message board or the Humane Advisory Board members. I think that this website would help you so much! Check it out. :)

    Good luck.

  2. Going door-to-door may not be the best way to raise funds. Think about it: some people may be a bit surprised by your appearance asking for money (especially if they don't know you) -- and they may not have money to give you.

I think someone else mentioned asking the ASPCA for advice, that is an excellent idea. Another idea is to think about writing a letter to your friends and family saying how much the ASPCA means to you and asking if they would make a donation -- perhaps instead of giving you a birthday gift this year. Some teens have done that to help out charities and they've gotten nice results. Don't want to go without birthday gifts this year? Then just ask if they would donate to the charity for the heck of it.

Congratulations for being kind, good hearted and generous to think of the animals that need help. Your good thoughts will certainly help animals in need. You'll find the best way to help the animals -- however you decide to help them!!!! Good luck! :)

  3. I believe that going door-to-door is ineffective. People don't like it, so they will be less likely to give your money.

  4. Go to your ASPCA and tell them you want to help.  They may have some ideas or can answer your question.  Usually you need a permit to go door-to-door so people will know you are legit.
