Question:

If I Leave America To Become A Canadian Citizen Can I Return To Visit Anytime I Want?

I really want to leave this country and start a new life in Canada, the TRUE "land of the FREE!" (sorry, USA is cool and all, but it kinda denies a lot of rights and freedoms to me, the right to marriage being just one of the MANY freedoms not offered to all Americans!) I am applying for a work visa and hopefully after 3 years of residence and passing the test I can become a citizen, but one piece of information that I am having trouble finding is the question of whether I can come back to visit friends and family anytime I want. Also, if anyone has any experiences or opinions about leaving America for Canada (both positive and negative) let me know. Thanks!

  1. If you are in Canada, you are IN America

America is a continent, it goes from Canada to Argentina, from Easter island to Greenland.

  2. YOU CAN HAVE DUAL CITIZENSHIP!

  3. Just go

  4. No it is easier if you make a clean break if you leave please never come back, we will be better for it.

  5. yeah you'll need a passport but you can come and go

  6. well I visited canada on a trip and u have to bring all this paperwork and such

im sure u can visit friends nd family but its annoying to drive over 6 hrs to get back into USA

I plan on doing the same thing as you and escaping this h**l hole our dumbass president got us in

  7. Canadians are not required to have a visa or even a passport  currently to enter the US as a tourist.  A passport is recommended, however.  You will need proof of identity and income from Canada in case you are asked when entering.  You can go to the Canadian Embassy website and it will tell you the requirements for a Canadian citizen entering the US.  You will not receive any special treatment because you were once a US citizen. All that being said, I hate to lose you, but Canada is an awesome place and I love the people..... Sure you won't reconsider staying here with us?  I wish you the best in starting your new life.  Sometimes we just need the chance to start over.  we as Americans should understand that better than any other people.  That's why people come here---looking for a fresh start.  Good Luck.

  8. Oh, of course you can return. You might have a DIFFICULT time crossing the border now though!

I went to visit some relatives and old friends up in Canada (I'm also an American citizen), and we got passed the border INTO Canada alright. But the thing is, it was very hard to get BACK into the USA.

You need to make sure you have your Birth Certificate. Not a copy, the ORIGINAL. The guard who let us into Canada was very carefree about that, but the guard who let us into the USA was not so nice about it.

They also checked through all of our stuff in the trunk and the rest of the car, it took like an hour or two and we just waited outside on the grass feeling extremely bored.

  9. Sure you can go back anytime you want for up to 180 days per year.  We are back and forth visiting people (and having people visit us) all the time.

I came to Canada intending it to be for a few years, that was about 30 years ago.  I didn't move here for any political reason, just a job opportunity.   But it's unlikely that I will ever return to live in the US.   Canada isn't the promised land, even if you are g*y, it's just better than a lot of other places.  Taxes are high, you get more for them, but they are high.  Canadians are more laid back about some things, more rigid about others.

  10. no and good riddance.please take bush with you(but I do not think the canadians would take him

  11. yes? yea for a vacation i guess

  12. You can maintain Dual Citizenship, so you would be considered an American by the U.S. and a Canadian by Canada.  Best of both worlds!
