Im from Canada and im in grade 9, but I don't want to go to school, All of my friends have turned on me and I have absolutly no friends at school. This disrupts my learning aswell because I can not get thoughts of people hateing me out of my head.

If i wanted to be home schooled, what would I have to do? Is it to late for me to try to be home schooled? As much information as you can give me would be helpful.

  1. Your parents would have to be qualified to do this, which (In THIS state, anyway) means that  at least one parent have at least an associates degree. Have your folks talk to the local school board to find out what the requirements are where you live, and to see if they are even willing to do this. Without parental involvement, it isn't possible.

  2. I don't know the laws in Canada that well, but you can find more about them at this link:

    http://www.hslda.ca/

  3. Well, its not what you want to hear, but its never a good idea to run away from your problems. You made it almost halfway, Finish the year, then if you are still having problems, consider switching schools. But complete isolation from your peers is not a good idea. What are you gonna do when you have to go to College? You cant drop out because someone doesn't like you. Go to the schools guidence councellor, or therapy. But Freshman suck, their pety arguments and false drama. But somewhere along the way you grow out of it. Take it one day at a time....High school willl be over before you know it.

But public transportation, or carpooling is an option.  there is always a way. And Being a social person is not a reason to drop out of school. You have only been in school a few months, you've barley given it a shot. You never know it might blow over. These people dont sound like good friends. Join a club or sport and get some new friends.

  4. I don't know about Canada, but where i live in California, Home Schooled means that you go to an adult school for 1 day of the week and take all your HW home and do it there, then you go back next week.

    Go to your school counselor.

  5. It's going to depend a bit on where you live. You might have better luck locating a support group for your province or your (closest) city. Just do a search for _yourprovince homeschool_ or _yourcity homeschool_ in Yahoo and even Yahoo Groups and see what comes up.

I know where I live (Alberta), there's still a way for you to switch, although I don't think you could switch to an online program at this point.

Don't rely on the HLSDA.ca site. My province's laws changed 2 years ago (at least 1 year ago), I think, and they STILL haven't updated their website.

  6. Hslda has a site for Canada. Look it up they will give you the laws which can act as a spring board for you. You also need to talk it over with your parents. Its never too late to start home schooling! After you know the law and have your parents permission you need to find a curriculum and have your parents drop you from the school.

Sorry to hear your having such a hard time at it right now. If your parents say no you'll have to stick it out but you'll be OK! You will make new friends! Before going to your parents do the research and build a case for home schooling . They will be more likely to try it if they see that you researched it and have it well thought out Good Luck!

  7. Do what you have to do. Do not listen to the mentality that says you should "just take it". This is not real world advice from a mature adult. By that logic, if you are sexually harassed in the work place, beaten at home or discriminated against in the public square, you should "just take it". That is not how life works. It is not how college works. you have options, take them. Live your best life.

    Good luck.
