If I Were In Medical School...?

..could I work as a nurse or an assistant, while studying. Because I know my cousin is at a medical school studying to be a Gynecologist, and right now she works as Gyn's assistant and the hospital pays for about 70% of her college tuition.

I'm asking because I also want to go to Medical School, but I want to be either a Gynecologist, or Plastic Surgeon (recronstructive not cosmetic).

  1. You can't work as a nurse - that's a completely different training program and you must be certified.  But look into working as an assistant like your cousin, because medical school can be very expensive.  Although I doubt you can help much as a plastic surgery assistant who's not a nurse and can't preform surgery.

  2. most med students i know who work are MCAT tutors. a lot of students don't work (no time). instead they just do research during the summer, and get paid for doing that.
