If I already have blinds up... should I put curtains on top or does that look silly?

I (and probably most people) have blinds OR curtains.

I have long scarves (from the curtain department) draped over and down the sides of my four bedroom windows. They are simple and don't compete with the blinds. I've had lots of complements from my friends.

put up a valance, to give it some color but not be so dark. Or sheers.

We have both vertical blinds and curtains. Treat the blinds as you would a shade. Draperies or just sheers make a nice treatment.

you can definitely put curtains on top of blinds.  sometimes blinds by themselves look not so attractive.  this way you guard out the sun and have pretty windows

Blinds are for privacy and you probably need curtains to make the room look finished.    Extend the curtain rod wider than the window so the curtains make the window look larger.

Match the curtains to your bedspread, doesn't have to be exactly the same but some colour or pattern in the bedspread that you like.    Now you are becoming an interior designer.

I’ve seen both, but I think windows look bare with only blinds.

I personally think that having blinds only looks to bare. I think a valance or sheer curtains always looks nice. I just installed vertical blinds in my livingroom and i am goign this weekend to look for curtains. Good Luck, i'm sure it will look great!

No, it would look fine.  Just get two panels for each window that have a piece to tie each off to the side.  My source is the example.  Also, if u don't have high ceilings, you could put the curtain rod, w/ long enough curtains, right up to the ceiling line to make the room look larger.
