  1. Just be careful--my husband could only take emycin one day--he was allergic to both as you are--he was allergic to many drugs--usually emycin will also cause reaction too--he could take z-pac but nothing else. Please consider carefully before taking the emycin.

  2. You should never take antibiotics unless prescribed by a doctor.

If you are allergic to sulfa or penicillin, than erythromycin MAY be a suitable antibiotic...but of course it depends on what sort of bacterial infection you have.

Erythromycin is notorious for making people nauseous, and really isn't used much anymore. " Z-pack" refers to Azithromycin which is a 3rd generation cousin of Erythromycin.  It is more expensive, but is only once a day dosing, and usually well tolerated.

The key point is...you never take antibiotics just because you have some old ones laying around and you think you are sick. ...most illnesses are viral.

  3. I am also allergic to penicillin and sulfa, I can not take e-mycin but not because of allergies rather because it is really harsh on my stomach and caused extreme pain. If you are allergic to antibiotics then your body will have the tendency to become allergic to others, you will not be allergic to something the first time you are exposed, unless  it is very similar to another substance to which you are allergic, normally your body must be exposed to a substance and recognize it before it will respond with an allergic reaction.

Talk to your doctor about your allergies and perhaps ask for an epi-pen to keep with you while you are on this medication in case of reaction.

    Good luck
