  1. That's a tough question. I know that a lot of people will tell you that if you live in the U.S. it's a good idea to learn Spanish (because of so many immigrants).

I've always had better luck learning a language that I'm passionate about. It's hard to make yourself learn something you're not interested in.

I don't know any Japanese so I can't really tell you a good site to check it out.

As for Spanish http://www.learn-podcast-spanish.com/spa... is a great website. It's easier to learn spoken Spanish because they show you the most common things natives talk about.

    Anyway, check it out.

  2. Choose which one that really interests you the most.

If you found Spanish makes you feel more happier and rewarding, then go for it ^^ the same goes for Japanese and all other languages ^^ Good luck! ^^

  3. espanol

  4. Pick what interests you more.  If you like both languages, I'd say pick the one that will benefit you more.  Do you want to go into a field where knowing either language would give you an edge over other job candidates?  Do you live near the border of Mexico, or do you live in Torrance?  Do you plan on visiting Japan or a Spanish-speaking country?  Do you have friends that speak either language?  I think Spanish could probably help you understand other romance languages, but then again Japanese might help if you're a big anime or Jpop fan.  I took Spanish in high school and Japanese in college.  I like both.

  5. Learn Japanese. You will fit in easier into their communities.

  6. My silly answer is that you should learn Spanish, just to tear down people's expectations.

My serious, EXTREMELY serious, answer is that, if your reason for learning Japanese would be so you can "be a part of them," you need to know that Japanese people will NOT accept you "as their own." Japan is very notably cold to non-Japanese. Even a Korean raised from childhood in Japan has a "Korean face" (remember Asians can tell each other apart), and other Japanese can see this, and  even though they'll be kind and friendly to the person, this Korean will never be truly accepted into the "in group." Your Asian face would not help you at all; you would be a foreigner who has learned Japanese as a second language. Again, they would be very nice to you, but were you ever to move to Japan, you would find something lacking in your need to feel like you belong. You will never be a part of them.

Now, if you're thinking of it in professional terms, I'd suggest Japanese. It is indeed rarer than Spanish, especially when you consider the large number of bilingual-from-birth Spanish/English speakers you'd be up against. Also, Japanese is very interesting to learn, and in my opinion is easier than Spanish with its lack of personal inflection.
