If I am emailing a resume and the recipient does not have microsoft word, then will the resume come out all messed up? I am supposed to email a resume and did it using a word template. I emailed to a friend and she said the resume was not lined up and all screwed up. She doesn't have word. Is that why? Also, I do not know if the employer I am sending it to has word or not, so what do I do so it comes out right if he doesn't have word?

  1. Use note pad.  it's a very basic word editor which works quite well with other programs.

  2. Save it as RTF or, if you can, PDF. The first can be opened by any word processor, the second is one of the most universal file formats in existence. Good luck!

  3. You don't have to worry about that.  If you email it to a company that does not have Word, I'm certain they have the free reader because it is a very popular business program.  Your friend doesn't have Word which is why the resume looks bad.

    I'm sure it won't be a problem.
