If I am going to spend a week or more in the states for a training course will I need a passport?

  1. If you are Canadian, you need a passport only if you fly.  If you are driving before next summer you can still cross into the USA with both your drivers license and a birth certificate.

    A short training course does not need a student visa.  But more information is needed.  If the course is less than 18 hours a week, then no.

  3. Are you a Canadian citizen?  If so, you will only need a passport if you are travelling by air (ie. flying from Toronto to Dallas TX).  If you are travelling by land (ie. Windsor to Detroit) then you will need proof of citizenship and a photo ID... either a valid driver's license + birth certificate, or a passport alone will work.
