  1. That will vary state to state. You really need to look at the unemployment website for your state. The only reason for collecting other than being laid off that I know of is if your employer moves far enough away that it is a problem for you to get to work. Before you just quit, have you exhausted all your options- do you have any vacation time left in which you can dedicate more time to looking? There has to be something out there. I see people posting ads on craigslist offering childcare all the time. If it's really impossible, and you have a good relationship with your employer, see if they will pink slip you instead of just quitting, then you can collect.  But it's not gonna be forever and then what will you do?  Take a leave of absence if you have to and find something. There has to be.

  2. If you quit your job, for whatever reason, you can not collect unemployment.  Unemployment can only be collected if you were fired from a job for no real reason.  If your current employer fires you because of something you did and it was well documented you would not be able to collect.  My advise would be to call different daycares and schedule interviews.  I was able to tell by a phone conversation if I even wanted to proceed with an interview.  Call different places and telll them you are interested in child care and ask them about their hours, rates, ratio of student to adult...things like that.  If you get a good vibe, ask to set up a time to go there and meet the director and the staff and see the facility.  Go with the one you are most comfortable with.  Ask around to parents at your work as to who their children go to.  My son goes to an "at home" day care now due to the recommendation of a friend and I couldn't be happier!  Good luck!
