  1. If you have a balcony, you can have a small container garden.  At one house, I had tomato plants growing in regular flower pots in my living room.  Some base housing are like townhouses and they may let you plant one, but you will have to replant grass before you leave.

  2. Technically NO. The base is responsible for mowing the grass and caring for the lawns...and I don't think it is allowed. When I was stationed at Ft. Benning, we DID however till up a space along the brick wall of our duplex home...about 2 feet. wide by 15 feet long. My wife grew tomatoes and other veggies there such as carrots and potatoes. Nobody complained about it. I suggest that you ask someone for permission before doing anything.

  3. You really need to ask your housing about his. is it privitized housing? our housing was taken over by pirecen housing. we are not allowed to plant anything but bushes. they specifically said no flowering plants, or plants that grow food (even though they are all over base!) they are trying to keep the animals (wild ones) away from the housing since we have alot of forest around us.

i did ask specially about this same thing and was told no. however, you can do pots. so try that.

i think doing them in containers is easier. this way when you move, if you want to take them with you, you can. saves you from having to dig them up and housing fining you.

  4. That question can only be answered through base housing. Lots of luck.

  5. Generally not in your yard,

But you may be able to plant a very small garden, by your house instead of flowers.

Most post and bases, set aside areas on the post, for those who want to plant gardens.

It just depends on the post your stationed at, as to whether they have room.

  6. That may depend on the base and the type of housing unit you are assigned.  Keep in mind that not all yards are fenced in, although you can usually get the materials from the base and do it yourself, so you may not be able to control who cuts through the yard.  The best way to get the answer is to ask the housing office of the base you are living on.  On all the bases I have lived on, small gardens were never an issue..neither were container gardens.  Trees were generally not allowed since you would most likely move before they had time to bear fruit and you have no idea where power, cable, phone and water lines run under the yard.  In the places that have apartments of units with two up and two down, you are generally unable to garden as all the yard is communal.

  7. It depends on which base you're at and even which area of housing you live in on a specific base.  Some have more stringent guidelines on what sort of plantings are allowed.  While other bases are more lenient.  I can't think of any that wouldn't allow a container garden but I suppose they might be out there.
