If I am out of vanilla extract, what can I use for my cookies?

I was halfway through making my dough when I realized I don't have any vanilla extract, which the recipe calls for.

What can I use for a substitution?

Is it true that the cookies will turn out just fine without it?

  1. if you are out of vanilla extract, just don't use it! You have basically no choice otherwise, but you could use a different bean or nut extract (almond, hazelnut, etc.)

but it probably won't make a huge difference if you leave it out.

  2. Any other extract can be substituted like rum extract or almond extract or even chocolate extract. I've used maple syrup as a substitute as it measures the same.

  3. They definately won't be as good. Do you have some almond extract or something like that - if so use it!

  4. They Will be totally ok without it :)  - the vanilla is for flavour only and has no effect on how they turn out physically :)  Lemon essence would give you a lemon cookie if you have some of that around?  Good luck!

  5. Peanut oil will not work,

bourbon, whisky, rum, brandy liqueur etc...
