I'm just curious because I work at the town snack bar, and if it rains then my boss cancels the shift because nobody will be at the park. So I was wondering if I should still be getting paid for the hours that I was scheduled for. Thanks

  1. No...

  2. No. It's not your employers fault. Happens all the time in construction.

  3. It's called "an act of God"...No soup for you !

  4. If you managed to get a contract that provides for pay when you didn't work, then you can enforce it.  No law requires such a contract.  If you hire someone to mow your lawn, and it rains one day so they come back the next, are you going to pay them twice for the same job?

  5. I don't think so. Sorry! You should ask your boss.

  6. The real questions is: Are you in a Union?

If you are you will get paid (even though you don't deserve to be paid.)

If you aren't then you should not get paid.

  7. Of course not. They are only required to pay you for the hours you work.

  8. no That is some job if you do

  9. No, unless you have a specific contract with your employer that he must pay JUST for you to be available to work, even if you don't work.

Such contracts are known as Pay or Play contracts.  It is highly unlikely for an employee i a snack bar to have such a contract.
