  1. NH is one of the two states that do not require mandatory liability insurance.  So, you can drive without insurance.  I would not recommend that you do so, but you can.  If  you were legally liable for the accident you and your parents would obligated to pay for the damages you caused(reduced by the other party's comparative negligence, if any)This could potentially be catastrophic.  Your parents should list you as soon as you become a licensed driver.

  2. You need to be added to your parent's policy as soon as you get your license, even if you are not driving.  What if there is an emergency & you HAVE to drive, what if you are out with a friend & for whatever reason, they can't drive & you need to?  These are the reasons you need to be added.  You need to be insured somewhere, whether you own your own car & have your own insurance or you are on a resident relative's policy.

NH does not require insurance to drive on the road but they sure do require it if you have an accident or they require that you prove that you have enough money to PAY for the accident.  If you don't, you still have to pay out of pocket & you have to file an SR22 for 3 years to keep your license.

Have an accident without insurance & see what happens to your parents & their policy.....

NH does NOT allow drivers to be excluded...

  3. While it's true NH doesn't require an insurance policy, they do require you to take financial responsibility.

If you don't drive any cars, including your parents car, ever, you can be listed as excluded on their policy, and you would not be covered.

Usually though once you get your license, your parents add you to their policy as a secondary driver, which means you are covered.

  4. If you don't plan on driving anything at all, then no, you don't need insurance.

    Ignore the "insurance agent".

As long as you never find yourself behind the wheel of a vehicle, you do NOT need insurance.

Just like you don't need insurance on a vehicle that doesn't run. It's suggested, but not required.

  5. No, that's only if you buy a car then you'll need insurance, but just to get a drivers license you don't need it.
