I am Electrical Engineer and working in Singapore but the company which I am applying for requested me to get seaman book. Do I need to arrange it personally or is there any agency here that would help me? So that I would not go back to our country. Thank you!!!

  1. Really, I'm not sure. The best that I can say is to check with some shipping companies and see if they can sponser you for a seaman's book from the flag of registration country of their ships(For example: A Liberian flagged ship will require you to have Liberian seaman's book and papers). But you usually need a seaman's book from your home country as well. So you should check with your embassy or consulate and see what they say. Maybe they can help to issue the documents, maybe not.

You'll probably need to back go to whatever country you are from and apply for a seaman's book. Will you also need STCW-95 BST? Maybe electricans are exempt, but you should still check just to be sure.

Most maritime jobs are very international in scope. It is common to have several sets of documents from several maritime flag countries such as Panama, Liberia, Bahamas etc as well as a seaman's book and STCW docs from your home country.

    Good luck!
