Question:

If I apply two coats of indoor semi-gloss paint do I need to sand after the first coat?

We built a mantel from bare poplar wood and I put three coats of primer (overkill, I guess). I lightly sanded after each coat including the last coat of primer. I have now put one coat of semi-gloss on and want to add one more coat. Can you tell me if I should lightly sand that first coat of semi-gloss ?

Thanks

  1. Depends on how smooth you want the end result. Sanding isn't absolutely necessary if that's what you're asking.
