The person I am babysitting for is a teacher that I had last year. She asked me if I would like to watch her two kids... and the dates are June 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, July 18th thru 24th, July 28th- August 1st. The shift is from 8 am to around 4 pm or earlier depending on the day. She is about 15 minutes away from my house... how much should I ask for and should it be an hourly rate or a flat rate.

  1. I would ask for a flat rate of $20 or $25 a day. Thats what I use too and I always got it. It's not like you have to stay the night or anything and $10 an hour is high.

  2. We usually pay $5 an hour for babysitters (we have 2 kids) but that is like once a month for dinner & movie.  Some of it depends on the age of the kids.  The older they are easier it is to take care of them (no diapers, and such).

  3. There is no fixed price. You have to consider the income of your employer in striking a fee.

I think $10 a day is reasonable since your employer is a teacher.

  4. over the summer i babysit mon, wed, fri from 9-1 and get paid 10 $ an hour. anything from 10-12 an hour is resonable these days. you might want to talk about it with your employee though so you  both agree on a fair price.
