I am going to go back to school but I dont want to end up working night shifts at the hospital. I really want to work at a doctors office that has better hours. Is this possible being a Rn or should I look into somehting else.

  1. most office settings prefer nurses with hospital experience, simply because the responsibilites of a nurse in the clinic have a broader scope and she must have some hospital experience to be able to deal with these responsibilites.  If odd shifts and long hours are not something you want to contend with, then nursing is not the professional course you want to take... that starts in training you know, you will often have to go to school during the day and do your hospital rotations at night.

  2. Hi, Sarah:

You can write your own ticket as an RN!  They can go into a management position at hospitals, work at colleges, doctor offices, private-duty, anything you can imagine a nurse can do these days.  You can even work two 12-hour shifts and have it count as full-time...I know nurses who have small kids and do this on the weekends when their spouses are home to take care of kids. (Men and women, both)

My friend is an RN, and was recruited by a medical equipment company that really liked her to work for the company and stay at the hospital to train new staff on the machine and work with the machine in the treatment of patients...

She now makes over $100K a year--not bad at all.  Plus, they don't care what hours she works, as long as she gets in her 40!

    GO FOR IT...and GOOD LUCK!

  3. when you qualify as a rn you usually have to gain 3 to 5 years general experience within the wards before you are allowed to apply for community jobs or surgeries I qualified in 1996 and this was the rules and I am still in nursing but in community so I think the rules is still the same good luck and enjoy your nursing
