Question:

If I bring One Guinea Pig Out Of The Cage Will The Other Resent Me?

Josh and Jack have finally bonded and are living together in the same cahe without fighting. I've had Jack for a while now, but Josh is new and I want to play with him for a while.

Jack has all of a sudden become very jealous and aggressive but he's calming down now and learning to live with Josh.

If I took Josh out of the cage for a while, would Jack become bitter and resent me?

He's already angry with me for getting a new piggy so I don't know whether or not to chance it. Or maybe I should bring them both out to save trouble. But I really want to bond with Josh cause he seems losat and confused.

  1. You shouldn't take one out without the other. A couple of minutes for a cuddle is fine but anything longer ( a trip to the vet for example) is not a good idea. They should go everywhere together.

  2. I think you should bring them both out.

  3. I would not take Josh out of the cage by himself. I would take BOTH piggies out at the same time and play with them together.

Jack is acting out and showing his dominance. This is completely normal. He has had you & "his" cage all to himself and now there's someone he has to share with! Stealing food & treats is also normal and sometimes this behaviour does not ever go away. I have pigs that have been together peacefully for years and they *still* steal each others' food. You have to play the referee sometimes and make sure the more submissive piggie still gets his daily ration of veggies. If you're not watching, the dominant piggie will take everything!

You're doing a great job with them...keep up the good work!

  4. I think I would start off taking them both out, them maybe put Jack back in first, he could have the pen to himself for a while and you could bond with Josh. Keep an eye on Jack after you put Josh back to make sure, he is OK with it all. Good luck, our two guinea's were brought home together, and they are so bonded, they don't like to be seperated, but we do at times, then they make up like it was forever.
