  1. You have to check with your local government's building codes. Better to know than have to move it later.

  2. This question is directly related to Land Surveying.

If a local jurisdiction has a setback requirement as mentioned by others, then that is only to keep the peace between neighbors and goes against almost all boundary laws established in the country.

By leaving a strip of land you could be potentially "Giving your neighbor future title claims to that strip. Your property is YOUR property.

Yes you can build up to the line. Can you do this without trespassing on your neighbors side? maybe., maybe Not

The best course of action is to first talk to your neighbor. If your neighbor is the reason you are putting up the fence this may be difficult, but it is better to talk to them early and let them know your intentions. Maybe they will split cost, Maybe not, maybe cost is not an issue. Tell them you want to place the fence on the COMMON Boundary line. If there is no monumentation of this line OR there is any doubt of where it runs, do yourself a favor and have your boundary line surveyed by a Professional land surveyor.

Step one check with your local Planning office to see if you need a permit.

Two, check with your local city surveyors office, or county surveyors office if the city doesn't have one. They may have recent surveys of your area.

Three approach your neighbor with your intentions to build a fence.

  3. good fences make good neighbors, so why not check with your neighbors and see if you can agree as to where the fence will go. If not you need to have someone come and survey your property to make sure you know where the line should go, then try just calling a local fencing company, they should know the setback for your area.

  4. there is noooo line. there s only your side and thier sde. Certain locals require you to ''set back'' a fence so many inches. Be sure to check your codes. Else you may be removing it later.

  5. you have to set the fence back so many inches on your property and different counties have different laws on the inches. the assessors office will usually know, my mother works in one and they deal with that a lot.

  6. This is decided by Local Building Codes. Check with your Building Department.
