If I buy a 1080p blu-ray player what would be the dis-advantage to using my 5 yr old audio receiver?

I see 1080p outputs on newer receivers now, why does that matter when we are talking about audio?

  1. no the sound is not as good but 1080p is the picture on what it show's it on but if you had a 720p tv then it would be worse


  2. You'd be missing out on the lossless audio codecs encoded in the BD releases.  DTS MA, Dolby True HD, etc... which are bit for bit identical to the studio master.

  3. thruHD and DTS MA does not support older receivers because the older receivers don't support that sound quality
