Question:

If I buy a HD DVR from Best Buy, will the people from Directv come and install it?

I just bought a new HDTV and I already have Directv. I want to buy the new box to record shows in HD and have HD television and if I buy the box, will they come and install it, or at least connect because I am sure that I can do it myself but I dont want to get it and not be able to use it.

Another question. If one TV already had HD and we subscribe to HD TV from Directv, do we have to pay an additional fee for having another tv?

  1. Do you already have the service set up in the room you want it in (as in, do you already watch DirecTV in there?) If so and you're only getting HD, not HD-DVR, you can use the existing satellite cable. The connections are really easy, I would just recommend not plugging the receiver into the outlet until you have it all connected (that can cause problems).

If you've never had DirecTV in that room, or you're upgrading to a HD-DVR I would recommend either calling to have an install done for one you get from Best Buy - but that will usually have a fee. In most cases, if you order the receiver from the CSR over the phone they will be able to both get you the receiver AND schedule an install in one cost.

If you already have one receiver providing HD content and you're only upgrading a standard receiver that you currently had, you will not pay an additional fee. However, if you're adding a brand new receiver to your setup you will only have an additional $4.99 fee for the additional programming.

  2. just call and ask them.

  3. If you purchase an HD DVR from any retailer, I believe they have authorized technicians who can do the installation for you. Also, you have the option to get the HD DVR from DirecTV in which I'm sure it will be installed by a technician. It costs $299, by the way. But if you still want to purchase from Best Buy, then try to inquire if they can do the installation once you purchase the equipment from them.

For any additional receiver (SD, DVR, HD, HD DVR), it would cost you an additional $4.99/month, and if you still haven't subscribed to the HD Access, that's an extra $9.99/month charge. It is a mandatory package for you to be able to get the HD feeds.

  4. They can, but it will cost you the same if not more to install it. If you live in the NYC area, under 42, single, I'll come do it for free.
