If I buy a HD television, would I need to upgrade my normal sky package to view the HD channels?

  1. You do if you want the HD content, if you choose not to update to HD, the standard Sky channels still work.

    Sky HD gives around 15 HD channels as well as all the other satelite channels. It cost £150 + installation and £10 extra on your monthly subscription.

    Freesat give all free-to-air sat elite and Freeview channels and two HD channels, BBC HD and ITV HD. This costs £150 + installation with no monthly subscription.


  2. yes, you will need the Sky HD package which costs more than sky+ and standard Sky. i have a HD telly but standard Sky and i see no point in upgrading as you get all the other channels. There are only a handful of HD channels so no point.

    you might want to consider FreeSat, which is like freeview but with HD channels. The box costs about £150 and you get 80+ channels, plus you pay no montly fee, just a one off with the purchase of the box

    But to get the most out of HD tv then it should be considered, along with a hi-def DVD (blu-ray) player etc.
