  1. You will be able to acces the internet any time providing your are in range of the modem/router. (i.e around your home with NO wires!) WiFi will also allow you to pick up other signals i.e ones from internet cafes etc.

This is all true providing you already have a connection deal with an ISP (internet service provider) like Tiscali, BT, Orange etc........Some ISP's give you a modem/router when you take out the deal which your WiFi will also be able to pick up

  2. you will be able to connect to wireless networks, which are broadcast through a router. The network must also be unsecured OR you must have the password for it if applicable. If you have a modem, then you can connect to the Internet when the

  3. If your laptop is WiFi capable then you will be able to connect to wireless networks, which are broadcast through a router.  Wireless networks are not available everywhere -- it has to be someplace with a router -- a private residence, a Starbucks, an airport.  The network must also be unsecured OR you must have the password for it if applicable.  If you have a modem, then you can connect to the Internet when the modem is properly hooked up (through cable lines or telephone lines, etc.), and your computer is hooked up to the modem.

If you want more versatility, invest in an wireless Internet card that allow you to connect to the Internet through cell phone towers.  While that's still certainly not "everywhere", that will greatly expand where you can use your laptop.

  4. You need a wireless router and it will only work around the router.

For example if the router is connected to your internet acess at home,

the wifi will only work at your house.

  5. Sure, your laptop should auto connect if you are at a hot spot or free wireless station.  At home is a different story.  You will have to have an ISP.

  6. You will have to subscribe for wireless broadband, it dose cost abit more, they provide you with a wireless modem you plug-into the usb port and you can travel and get an internet connection.

  7. You will need to sign up with an Internet Service Provider before you can access the internet. To use a WiFi connection you need to be in range of a hotspot, which you can find in many places such as train stations, cafes, bars, libraries etc. BT seem to have the highest number of hotspots around the country

If you want to connect wirelessly inside you homw then you will need a wireless router. The ISP you sign up with can provide you with one of these.

The last year or so has seem the emergence of Mobile Broadband. This is a small modem which is put into a USB port on your computer. These are provided by the mobile phone networks like Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile. You can use these whereever there is a signal, which is pretty much everywhere. You don't have to be in range of a WiFi hotspot and it's simpler than using a wireless router.
