Question:

If I buy a new air conditioner will it be quieter when the compressor kicks on and off?

My Hampton Bay AC is only 5 years old and hasnt been used all that much. But when the compressor kicks off (I think when it switches to fan only mode vs. actual ac cooling mode) it shakes my window and wall. I was looking at a new Kenmore AC with the same BTU rating and is slightly more efficient. Do you think the compressor kicking off will be quieter and not shake the window as much?

  1. The quietest one you'll find is a Lennox.

They've oversized the condensing unit to the point it's very quiet. How did that work? The unit is under no strain at all. Kicks on quiet, runs really quiet and floats to a stop

Edit: I didn't read the whole question. Can't help you much on window units, except that a little as they cost, get the biggest one that'll fit in your window.

  2. The mounting on the compressor might be loose. It shouldn't make the noise it makes.
