I have a Canon 300D, film SLR. I am considering getting a Canon 400D digital SLR, will the lenses I have for the 300D still work on it. I have heard there could be a problem with the size of the digital sensor being smaller than the 35mm film size aperture.

  1. Yes your lenses will work just fine. All EF lenses are interchangeable between film and digital. You do not need an adapter and they will meter and autofocus just fine.

The EFs lenses that are designed exclusively for the cropped sensor DSLR's like the 400D will not work on your film camera though. There are really only one or two EFs lenses that you will have though. The kit lens that comes with the camera 18-55mm and maybe a 10-22mm wide angle.

Older FD mount lenses will not work though. These lenses were all made before 1987.

There is no problem with the sensor being smaller. You do have to multiply the focal length by 1.6 to accomodate the crop factor though. So a 100mm lens performs like a 160mm lens would on a film camera.

  2. Yes, very easily. But you have to buy a converter- very cheap and readily available, only problem is you may need several depending on what lenses.

  3. I bought a new Nikon ID40X and I have an old SLR with loads of lenses and I was going to use them but I got an amazing deal with the new camera which included two auto focus lenses from 35 to 200 that its poinless using the lod ones which are heavier.

I got mine from Jessops and the deal was amazing.

    Slr

    2 auto lenses

    camera bag

    Binoculars

    Battery and charger

    all included,

It may be worth a look at there special offers.

    The Nikon is amazing .

  4. the lenses WILL work so long as they are the same fitting as your current D-SLR however if your D-SLR has mechanical image stabilisation OIS (and Canon 400D does I understand) then this will be missing in your old lenses and you may get blurred images unless you use a tripod.

most camera's using OIS are Olympus, Nikon and Canon!

the image sensor being smaller than the 35mm is not a problem (if it had been bigger then it would have been)

  5. image stabilisation only gives you one or two stops extra. It's not the big of a deal.

All dslr camera manufactures havet his option built into the lens or into the camera like sony, olympus and pentax.
