I have 2gb of ram, a radeon X800 256mb, and dual core athlon xp 3800+ 2.01ghz. I can not run top games without them running choppy and cant get even close to top gfx. Would a better card really help?

  1. well first of all get a better duel core cpu, and also get a graphics card at least with 512MB, also if you play online upgrade your network card.i surrjest the following:

    graphics card: Gigabyte GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

    cpu: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Socket AM2)

    network card: a Killer M1

  2. Seeing as you have decent RAM and a decent Processor, a new graphics card would be your next big upgrade.

2g of RAM really is alot, but I would suggest buying another 2g and going up to 4, as that really puts you over the top for any game you might be trying to play.

And not to mention RAM is dirt cheap ;)

  3. Yeah they will work like a dream, betta graphix card betta quality of game :-)

  4. radeon 9600 is about 7 years old

maybe you want to get a beeter card

maybe try a card like geforce gtx 280

  5. Your X800 is actually newer then the Radeon 9600. Unless you mean the Geforce 9600?

I don't know if you have an AGP slot or a PCI-express slot, but the HD 3850 would be the best card for AGP and the HD 4870 would be the best for PCI-e. Since your 3800 only runs at 2.0ghz, you would not be able to unleash the full potential of these cards, but it surly will help.
