Question:

If I buy a restricted 600cc motorbike, would I be able to unrestrict it after two years?

So for example, I buy the bike with the restricted engine, and drive it for two years. Would I then be able to simply throw off the restrictor (?) and then drive around with full engine, or is it much more complicated than that?

  1. Only after you pass your A2 restricted motorcycle test, and you can't ride it legally before you have passed that test.

  2. Yes that is the point of restrictor plates.  They are easy to remove so the new learner can "move up" later - without having to buy another bike later.

The restrictor plate is basically a (gasket like) sheet metal that has smaller opening than the carb throttle - so it restricts air flow.  Just remove the plate and you are back to full power.

It is placed where the gasket goes.

    Good Luck...

  3. It is as simple as that. Most bikes do have a restrictor /governor. I remember with my 1996 Honda RVF 400RR NC35, that you could buy a kit to delimit the engine. I did some researched and eventually took the ECU and box in to a mechanic and all that he did was to take out one of the resistor in the box! Saved me a ton of money!

Anyway, 600cc might be more trickier as their technology is far more advanced. You can however, buy kits for them and have it delimited professionally. No problem. The make these kits for all superbikes!

So, that's all that you have to do, go buy a kit and have the thing delimited! While you're at it, get a new exhaust and ECU! Crazy hp gains!

    Enjoy!

  4. Yes you can just derestrict it.

With regards to the other posts, it probably is just a case of throat plates fitted to the carburettor body in your 600, but check with a dealer: Japanese grey import 400s are electronically speed & sometimes rev limited, which means fitting a 'black box' into the loom to derestrict them, but this is not commonly done with 33bhp bikes which have restrictions to match the learner A1/A2 class.
