  1. not as far as i know. you should be able to use your regular dvd player and such, but to get the best experience in visuals from your dvd a blue ray player would be best and blue ray disc of course.

  2. You can use a dvd player, but it won't look as good, because a dvd is in standard definition.

  3. your dvd player will work fine but if you get a blu-ray player it will upconvert your standard dvds to somewhat higher def and blu-ray discs will be 1080p hi-def.

  4. As long as your TV takes inputs that your DVD player out puts you should be fine.  Most DVD players have a component out and some have HDMI or DVI.  And most LCD TVs will take component or HDMI inputs.

So your DVD player and DVD collection will work fine.  It just won't be an HD quality signal coming from your DVD player.

A blue ray player plays normal DVDs and blue ray discs, which have a higher quality version of the content.  The blue ray players will upconvert the signal on the normal DVDs, but the source content is still not hd quality and won't look or sound as good as a blue ray disc.
