If I buy used car from private party, whats the tax & registartion fee in Texas? Can I avoid or decrease tax?

If its a private party you can give them cash or a cashiers check then when you go sign papers you just say the sales price is like a dollar then you will only pay taxes on a dollar.The other party has to agree to this and don't let the notary know about it. This may not be legal so use caution.

Bryce meant well, but he;'s on crack.

The DMV caught onto his game and they tax based on book value now.

Even if the low price/great deal is legit, they tax based on book now.

Well on my car I bought for $1200 the tax and registration was like $100 when I went to have it put in my name.  But it's only $54 a year after that.  If the person you're buying it from agrees you can say on the bill of sale you paid $500.  This would decrease the amount of tax, but if I remember correctly the registration part stays the same no matter the value of the vehicle.
