If I can't run really fast, can I still make the team?

I'm trying out for my high school volleyball team and I know that they expect you to run at tryouts. I'm a horrible runner, and I mean horrible! I can't run two minutes without stopping to take a breath. I know that running is important in volleyball, so should I even bother trying out?

  1. for my school, if you weren't on varsity, the running load wasn't all that bad. all you really need to be able to do is sprint. volleyball isn't a long-distnace running sport. you need to be able to get to the ball fast. you shoud try out. i have asthma and i am not a great runner either, but i was on the team 3 years, and captain. if you have the will power, you can do it

  2. Well, i have been playing Volleyball for five years now, all i can say to you is that ; yes you need to be in shape if you want to play competitive volleyball. But you need answer 2 questions:  - Is the volleyball team your going to tryout in competitive?

    - Do you have experience?

But Volleyball is all about passion so  if you really want to play tryout, you have nothing to lose right?

  3. you should always tryout even if you dont run fast...ALWAYS if the coaches see you are tryign your hardest and you dont complain then they will see you dont give up and that is a plus..coaches look for that

  4. yes. running helps. when you need to save a ball or need to go to a ball where no one is around its good to run fast to it.

  5. It's not so much running as it is endurance (that's essentially what the running is for). Try to work on it, push yourself a little harder each time. If not, go in with reasonable expectations, and try to not let that show (try as hard as you can). If you're short, I wouldn't recommend trying out, as shorter people are usually liberos, and it requires more running that any other position.

  6. Yes you can stay on the team as long as you try to get ever ball that come close to you and the ones that are to far away from you, you leave it up to your parthers and work together.

  7. yes you should. try to run each day for like 5 min.

then as you get better, step it up a bit.

but be read. in volleyball. you do run a lot.

once in volleyball our whole tram had to do 14 suicides in one practice!!!

but keep in mind. running is good for you. it will keep you in shape!!

    good luck!! =]=]=]

  8. You can improve your running and endurance prior to try outs. You need to get out and run run and run some more. Find somebody else that wants to try out for volleyball

    to run with.

    Always Try!

If you don't make it try again next year.

If you work at it your work will pay off.

  9. you probably will need to be able to run but dont just give up. run every day and you will get better. and u might want to make sure you are going to be able to make the team on account of your vball skills. GOOD LUCK!! :-)

  10. Yes,

In volleyball running is the KEY. But its ok. I am not that fast, im sure there are collage players who arent fast but, if you have other skills for the sport and try your hardest at tryouts you should do just fine!
