If I can run 7 miles pretty easy can I run 10 miles?

I am a fourteen year old girl who is training for a half marathon on the weekends and running with the varsity team and weight lifting on the week days. I really want to run ten miles tomorow, but I do not know if I would be upping the milage too much, too fast. How many calories should I eat before and the day of the ten mile run? What would be a good pace to run it at. I can do 7 miles at the average pace of 8'56" per mile.

Thanks for the help!

  1. It really depends on what you do to train.  If you run 7 miles EVERY day, I'd say: go for 10 miles.  It's good to have a long day about once a week, just like it's good to have a rest day once every 2-3 weeks and a short day once a week.  If you normally do less than 7 miles and 7 miles is the most you've ever done, start by gradually increasing your mileage.  (Have a long day once a week and time 7 miles.  The next week, add 5 minutes to that time.  Keep adding 5 minutes to your long days until you reach your goal of 10 miles.)  If you do decide to run the 10 miles, start off a little slower than you would for 7 miles and pick it up near the end if you're up for a challenge.  I don't think you should worry about calorie intake (just eat as much as your body feels like it needs), but make sure you get hydrated.  Good luck.

  2. Yes you can you just have to push yourself and focus

  3. I run in competitions alot too, also 14. You have to try your best and i know its hard and believe me i have experienced alot of bad injures. If you feel as if you cant do it well just stop because at the end of the day i would of rather dropped out than end up in hospital but its up to you.  I believe in you Lyndi go get them.

    Good Luck, Chris

  4. Of course! Just set a good smooth pace that your comfortable with and it will be a peace of cake.

  5. Yes, you can do 10 miles. Make sure you get a good night's sleep two nights before. I wouldn't add extra calories before running - you'll be hungry enough after. But make sure you're hydrated. Stop for a quick drink if you need one en route. I do my long runs on bike paths. Good luck!
