I am going to change the WEP password on my router so that the lap tops in my house can't connect to it during certain times of the day. When I change it back will the lap tops have any problems connecting back.

  1. If you change it from say Dog to Bear...when you change it to Bear, they will not be able to access, but when you change it back to Dog, they will be able to access it using the Dog profile.  You should also maybe try wpa-psk if your router can do that.

  2. You should be able to change the password and not worry about the labtops as long as they dont have the password.

If you have a main computer hooked up the router you can use the computer to manage the flow of traffic and how the router is accessed and by who at what times.  Xp has services you can turn on to do the job for you so you dont have to continue to configure the router but instead set up user accounts.

Server 2003 is a better os for this kind of job but XP can do with also.

  3. Do not use WEP.  Use WPA instead if your devices support it.  WEP's source code is available to everyone.  It can be cracked in just a few minutes.  If possible, use WPA2.  If not possible, use WPA.
