  1. First of all there is no such thing as a pre-med major or program.  There are standards set by the American medical association of 1 yr calc, phys, chem, OChem, plus some anatomy and states.  You just need a bachelors to get accepted into med school.  You also need a very high GPA like 3.8 and high MCAT scores.  You can go for DO or MD.  DOs accept people with lower GPA's and mcats and med experience.

Alot of people major in bio-science or biology because the pre-med reqs are part of this degree.  But then again I know philosopy, history and Political sci. majors that are taking med school requirements as well because it doesnt matter.   It also depends on the schools you apply to as well.

Always apply to 10 schools minimum and if you dont get in go to a Post-bach approved by the AMA and apply again.  You will probably get in.  I know med school sounds great to talk about in college and all but its h**l.  Be prepared to work crazy 90 hr days during your last two years and be in OBGYN and sugery rotations which are h**l and be degraded and intimidated by people during rotations.  RNs hate med students so be prepared to take **** from them too.  Also take the stairs when you leave the hospital so no one sees you or be prepared to work an extra hour or two.  Also be prepared to work 60 hrs/ wk once you are in residency for **** pay.  Don't be afraid to talk about the money either because you have to be compensated somehow and also be prepared to work saturdays.

Last advice: dont tell people your major is pre-med or pre-law.  Everyone hates those people in college.  Its like saying your major is pre-grad school or pre-dental school, or pre-masters.

    Hope this helps!

  2. No. There is no guarantee that you will get into their medical school. It depends on the school. Some schools especially state schools give preference to their residents and undergraduate students. I know that Brown and Columbia do not give preference to their students. You will need to find out what your school does, just ask an admissions officer in the medical school.
