I am making a stir fry where the recipe calls for cooking wine, since I do not have it what else can I use? I have Gin, Jack Daniels, and Vodka?

What if I just use standard red wine?

Your suggestions would be appreciated - Thanks.

  1. Vermouth or Sherry

  2. WATER OR CHICKEN BROTH, LOL

    NOT liquor!!!

  3. use drinking wine or beer, or grape juice. last resort jack daniels.

  4. standard red wine is just fine!

i would only go for jack daniels to make a sticky bbq sauce... thats lovely! and never used gin or vodka...

  5. Wasn't aware there was such a thing as 'cooking wine'.

My parents just use a cheap red when they're cooking. Don't waste anything too nice on it though.

  6. Cooking wine is wine where they have added salt so the cook wouldn't imbibe.

It's horrible stuff so I would definately use regular wine always.

If you don't have that fruit juice if it is a sweet item, or stock or bouillon for a savoury item or redwine vinegar for something acidic.

My favourite to cook with is sherry.

  7. apple juice +stock or water

    cider

    vinegar+water or stock

    or just normal wine!!!

  8. Any of those would be fine...I'd personally go for the standard red wine...I definately don't think I'd use the vodka though.

You could also use chicken broth or apples juice.
