Would it then entitle me to teach french and geography at secondary school level? Thanks. also has anyone ever done this course? what's it like? Thanks again.

  1. Don't you have to do a teaching diploma after you complete your basic degree? You would in the Republic.  


  2. Just to add to the other (correct) posters. Yes, this basic degree will give you your teaching subjects, but you then have to go to do a Higher Diploma in Education which, as the other poster said, are difficult to get on to. These are offered at the universities in Ireland.

    An alternative would be to continue at the University of Ulster and do a PGCE. Apparantly, it is easier to access these courses in Northern Ireland and the UK than it is in Ireland. A PGCE qualifies you to teach in the Republic as well as in GB & NI.

  3. Well in the Republic you will do your basic degree and then you have to do a higher diploma in education. It is virtually impossible to get into those courses. I was the 3rd highest in a class of over 250 people and I barely scraped into one.
